Overview of the Yale Security Department
Introduction
The Yale Security Department, established in March 1996, has offices located at 57 Lock St. and 79 Howe St, and on West Campus. The department is staffed 24 hours a day by trained security officers and management personnel. The primary purpose of the department is to protect facilities and campus personnel and support the activities of the Yale Police Department.
The department provides safety services, such as walking escorts, theft deterrent programs, lockout services, and response to residential college alarms.
Mission
To provide safety and security services to the entire campus community, including:
- electronic and physical security systems
- 24 hour monitoring and dispatching in partnership with police, fire, OEHS, and others
- security coverage for/in buildings, grounds, parking lots, special events
- expertise to identify specific security risks and vulnerabilities and develop appropriate solutions
- management of security components for campus planning
