Yale, New Haven police chiefs meet students

The Elm City’s police leadership packed into the Berkeley College Common Room Monday evening for a meet and greet with students. New Haven Police Department Chief Dean Esserman and Yale Police Department Chief Ronnell Higgins were joined by four members of the Board of Aldermen and about 25 students in an hour-long session aimed at allowing students to get to know police leadership and understand their departments’ operations.
YPD Announces Next Citizen's Police Academy

The Yale Police Department will kick off its next Citizen Police Academy on March 30. The program, which will run for six consecutive Tuesday evenings at the YPD’s Ashmun Street headquarters, aims to increase understanding and awareness of the department’s history, operations and capabilities, Chief Ronnell Higgins said. As part of the YPD’s expanded community policing strategy, the police academy, now in its fifth year, is free for those in the Yale or New Haven community.

YaleTip is the Yale Police’s anonymous and safe cell phone texting service available to all members of the campus and local communities. When community members use YaleTip, they help inform YPD of potential threats, illegal activities or simply questionable actions that might threaten someone’s sense of personal security – all without revealing the sender’s identity.
January is National Stalking Awareness Month.
The Yale Police Department (YPD) is committed to preventing violence of any kind through training, public awareness and appropriate response. The YPD is pleased to take part in National Stalking Awareness month and to have the opportunity to increase awareness about the seriousness of stalking.
